This is a very interesting TED talk about how to regreen our planet and reverse the desertification that’s running rampant.

It’s interesting to me because of the part herd animals play in looking after our topsoil and our environment.

It also brings to mind Chief Seattle’s comment in 1854 – What is man without the beasts?  If all the beasts were gone, man would die from a great loneliness of spirit.

As you’ll see from Allan Savory’s TED talk we may suffer from a lot more than ‘a great loneliness of spirit’ if we don’t address this.  Having shifted from a vegetarian to a paleo diet 2-3 years ago I’ve come to a completely new appreciation of the ‘beasts’ from a very personal experience and to see this highlighted on a global level just drives the point home for me that we are intimately connected in our journey on planet earth.
