I remember once I was faced with an utterly distraught friend. I could have felt guilty for being part of the reason for her feelings but I chose not too because I knew I wasn’t. So I chose to feel my innocence and just love her in her distress. Our eyes met and it felt like a bolt of energy shot out of my eyes to hers. As soon as that happened she calmed down. Distress gone. At peace with herself and the situation once more.
It was a physical experience for me of how the peace of my mind can bring peace to another that I will never forget. I also know it was not something that I did. It was simply something that happened through me.
When I think of what today’s lesson says, that the light of the world will bring peace to every mind through my forgiveness, I’d love it if that was as instantaneous a result across the globe as it was to my friend. But again it’s not about me making something happen other than the peace in my mind. While it may bring peace to other minds, it won’t necessarily be felt or experienced by them unless they let it in. Like my friend did.
Until they do I trust it waits for their openness, piling up at the door of their hearts until they open it. Just a chink will do.
Till then the lack of peace in the world is not mine to judge but to continue to forgive.
